WiP Panel Session in PES GM 2022

IEEE PES General Meeting was a huge success! Women in Power organised two panels, one networking event and had an active booth during the conference.

Our first panel, moderated by WiP former Chair, Ruomei Li, discussed Energy Efficiency and Demand-Side Management: An Innovative Way to Reduce CO2 Emissions. We could hear about this timely topic from experts in the area, both in industry and academia:

  • John McDonald, General Electric
  • Denise Munoz, ComEd
  • Celia Shahnaz, BUET
  • Johanna Mathieu, University of Michigan

Our second panel, the social session chaired by Jelena Ponocko, aimed to Explore and Encourage Women’s Unique Innovative Abilities to Achieve Diversification, with esteemed speakers who shared their views on the importance of policy, challenges of energy poverty and ways to thrive as a female engineer:

  • Guadalupe Gonzales, National Secretariat of Energy, UTP
  • Mercy Chelangat, Regis University
  • Mazana Armstrong, High Power Lab at Powertech Labs Inc.
  • Dipti Srinivasan, National University of Singapore

The Women in Power Reception was very well attended, with a special address from IEEE PES President Jessica Bian, who recognised contributions to Women in Power initiative of many colleagues in the audience.

Finally, at our WiP booth you could meet our representatives Alexander Anderson (PNNL), Jelena Ponocko (The University of Manchester) and Hui Zhang (Oswego University) and find out more about our activities and membership application.

We are looking forward to seeing you next year in Orlando, Florida!
