Jackie M. Peer

Jackie M. Peer earned a BSEE from Washington State University and currently serves at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories as the director of SEL University.

In 1996, Peer joined SEL as an application engineer and since then has held a variety of positions, including R&D management of distribution engineering for relays and controls, time and communications products, and LAN products. She has led technical marketing functions, served as regional sales and service director for the West region of the U.S., and as the director of SEL’s Modern Solutions Power Systems Conference.

Peer is a senior member of IEEE and the Society of Women Engineers, and a member of IEEE PES (Power Engineering Society), IEEE Women in Engineering (WiE), IEEE Women in Power (WiP), and the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE). She has written several papers covering workforce-related issues in the electric power industry and has presented at numerous industry events and conferences on this topic and on education and training within the industry.

An advocate for ensuring a well-educated industry workforce, Peer is involved at the national and regional levels with the IEEE Scholarship Plus Initiative™ whose purpose is increasing the supply of well-qualified, entry-level engineers to the power and energy industry. In addition, she serves on the Executive Board and Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lewis Clark Valley, serving over 5,000 area youth.

In 2014, Peer received The Manufacturing Institute’s Women in Manufacturing STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Award, which recognizes women in those four disciplines who have made significant achievements in manufacturing.
